BIOGRAPHY

Artyom Abashev graduated from the Piano Department of Zhiganov Kazan State Conservatoire in 2007 and completed his postgraduate work there in 2010 (under Elfiya Burnasheva). During his studies he was a recipient of the Sviatoslav Richter Fund from the Mstislav Rostropovich Charity and Support Foundation.

He collaborated as a guest soloist with a number of ensembles such as the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, Student Orchestra of the Kazan State Conservatoire, Orchestra Sinfonica Cittàdi Grosseto, Tchaikovsky State Symphony Orchestra.

As a conductor  he debuted with the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan. In 2012 he headed the Junior Orchestra of the Kazan State Conservatoire. He performed with the “New Music” Chamber Orchestra, created at the Sofia Gubaidulina Center for Contemporary Music (Kazan, Russia). Since 2014 he has worked with the Kyklos Ensemble (Greece).

In  the 2013/2014 season Artyom Abashev was appointed as a conductor to the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre; since the 2019/2020 season he has been the theatre’s chief conductor. He assisted Teodor Currentzis directing Purcell’s The Indian Queen (2013), Zender’s Schubert’s Winterreise (2014), Kourliandski’s Nosferatu (2014), С(h)oeurs to the music by Verdi and Wagner (2014, International Diaghilev Festival), Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (2017, Salzburg Festival), Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito (2017, Salzburg Festival; 2018, Amsterdam).

His repertoire includes Verdi’s La traviata, Puccini’s La bohème, Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann, Borodin’s Prince Igor, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Shostakovich’s Hypothetically Murdered and Orango, Prokofiev’s Cinderella, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, Adan’s Giselle, Minkus’s La Bayadère, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, nights of one-act ballets: Stravinsky’s The Fairy’s Kiss, Petrushka, and The Firebird; Ballets by Jerome Robbins (The Four Seasons to music by Verdi and The Concert to music by Chopin).

He conducted the concert performance of Weinberg’s The Passenger (2014), Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites (2016), Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos (2016), Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges (2018).

In December 2015 he performed Scriabin’s Piano Concerto and the Symphony No. 3 as a conductor and solo pianist at the concert of the Symphony Orchestra of the theatre. 

In April 2017 the artists of the Perm Ballet and orchestra under Artyom Abashev performed Swan Lake at the  Mariinsky  festival; in November 2017 they performed Ballets by Stravinsky  at the CONTEXT. Diana Vishneva festival (with the orchestra of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre).

In Summer 2018 the conductor successfully performed at Les Étés de la Danse festival (Paris) devoted to the 100^th anniversary of Jerome Robbins’s birth. The Perm Ballet artists performed The Four Seasons and The Joffrey Ballet performed the Glass Pieces — both arranged by the Prométhée orchestra under Artyom Abashev.

In November 2018 he toured to Dublin where the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra under his baton arranged the performance of Swan Lake by the Perm Ballet artists.

Since the 2017/2018 season Artyom Abashed has been a guest conductor of the Ural Opera Ballet where his repertoire embraces Adan’s Swan Lake and Giselle, Hertel’s La Fille Mal Gardée, Paquita by Deldevez, Minkus and Krasavin, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, Korolev’s The Order of the King, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, Weinberg’s The Passenger, Glass’s Satyagraha, Eötvös’s Three Sisters etc. In June 2019 he toured to Vietnam as a conductor with the Ural Opera Ballet troupe.   

 He was nominated for the “Golden Mask” National Theatre Award twice as the best conductor: Les contes d’Hoffmann in 2015 and The Nutcracker in 2018.
