BIOGRAPHY
Jacques le Roux was born in Ladysmith (Kwazulu-Natal) in South Africa. He studied at the conservatoire of the North West University in Potchefstroom. He made his European opera debut in 2007 at the German Jeunesse Musicales Junge Oper Schloss Weikersheim in the role of Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola.
During the 2008/09 opera season he was engaged at the Staatsoper Meiningen in Germany and from 2010 he is currently engaged at the Musiktheater in Linz, Upper Austria as principle leading tenor. In 2010 he was honored by the Deutsche Theaterverein as Artist of the Year and winner of the Ulrich Burkhardt Förderpreis. He has worked with some of the world’s leading conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Franz Welser-Möst, Gustav Kuhn, Alessandro de Marchi, Dennis Russell Davies and Myung-Whun Chung. Also as concert and recording artist, Jacques le Roux enjoys a reputation of “World Class Musical Event” and has given recitals throughout Germany, Austria, Norway, the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia, Belgium, South Africa and Switzerland.
He has made recordings for many international music labels such as Naxos, EMI, ORF, Col Legno and Art House. He has worked with staging renown staging directors Robert Wilson, Sir David Pountney, Carlos Padrissa, and Olivier Tambosi. In 2013 he sang the lead in the world premiere production of Phillip Glass’ opera “Spuren der Verirrten” for the opening of the new opera house in Linz to international critical acclaim. He has further sung lead roles in the world premiere of operas by Ernst Luwig Leitner, Moritz Eggert and Helmut Schmidinger.
In 2016 he was nominated for the Austrian Music Theatre Award for his interpretation of Peter Quint in Benjamin Britten’s Turn of the Screw.
