Ektoras Tartanis was the second prize-winner of the “Young talents 2014” conducting competition in Thessaloniki (Greece). He was prize-winner of the national competition “Jungend Musiziert” and winner of the composition competition “Jugend komponiert”. He was a fellowship holder of the “Robert-Bosch” and “Fulbright” foundation.

BIOGRAPHY

Ektoras Tartanis studied conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Clark Rundell and Mark Heron, and at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz with Ingo Ingensand, where he graduated with honours. In addition he also took part in several master classes with conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Sir Mark Elder, Juanjo Mena, Lothar Zagrosek, and Mark Shanahan.

Orchestras he worked with are among others, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, the Symphony Orchestra of Würzburg, the Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart, the South Czech Philharmonic, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra and the Lucern Festival Strings. He also worked with the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg (Austria) on the production of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and was musical assistant Michael Millard for Puccini’s La bohème at the Opernakademie Bad Orb (Germany). In 2013 he was musical director in revival of Tim Benjamin’s chamber opera The Rosenhahn Experiment (first produced in 2008) in Manchester.

Since 2014 he has also been mentored by Teodor Currentzis, whom he assisted in several concert and opera productions throughout Europe. In 2016 he stepped in at short-notice with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg at the Rosengarten Mannheim with works of Beethoven, Berg and Shostakovich together with Patricia Kopatchinskaja. In 2017 was assistant conductor for La bohème at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Ektoras Tartanis was musical assistant at the Opernhaus Wuppertal for the season 2015/2016. Since September 2016 he is also artistic director and co-founder of the Argo Ensemble (Stuttgart). Since the 2017/2018 season Tartanis is the first Kapellmeister and associate general music director of the State Opera and symphony orchestra of Bremerhaven.

As a guest conductor in the season 2018/2019 he will make his debut with the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg and the Athens State Orchestra.
