Biography
He trained at the Juilliard School (New York) and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, where he has worked closely with the legendary Marilyn Horne.
In his repertoire, the main parts as in classical operas: Rodolfo (Puccini’s La bohème) at the Greek National Opera, L’Opéra National de Bordeaux, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari (Italy), Oper Köln; Alfredo Germont (Verdi’s La traviata) at the Semperoper Dresden, Hamburg State Opera, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Welsh National Opera; Hoffmann (Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann) at the Opéra de Lyon; Duke of Mantua (Verdi’s Rigoletto) in Leipzig, São Paulo Brazil, Toulon, and Montreal; Cavaradossi (Puccini’s Tosca) at the Minnesota Opera; Don José (Bizet’s Carmen) at the Greek National Opera, as well as in modern works: Mario Ruoppolo (Catán’s Il postino) at the Teatro Real, Madrid, Electrician (Adès’ Powder Her Face) at the Teatr Wielki, Warsaw, and Ben Marco (world premiere of Puts» The Manchurian Candidate) at the Minnesota Opera.
In 2011 the singer made his first appearance at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, performing the part of Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.
In 2016 he made his debut at the Royal Opera in Covent Garden: Ismaele (Verdi’s Nabucco), and in the season 2016/2017 he performed the part of Hoffmann.
In February 2017, Capalbo first appeared on the stage of the Royal Opera in Stockholm: Gustav III in the Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. In the near future the singer will perform at the Grange Festival (Verdi’s Requiem and the new production of Carmen), at the Polish National Opera (La traviata) and at the Real Alzácar in Seville (Carmen).
