Medea Iassonidi

Biography

Medea Iassonidi graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (now the Petro Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine) where he had studied piano performing. She worked as a concertmaster at the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theatre (the National Opera of Ukraine) under direction of Vladimir Kozhukhar. At the same time, she took up studying under Natalia Tatarinova.


In 1991 Medea Iassonidi was repatriated to Greece where she studied in the Athens Conservatoir under famous mezzo-soprano Kiki Morfoniou (stage partner of Maria Callas) and renowned baritone Kostas Pascalis (one of the best European Macbeths and Nabuccos in Verdi’s operas). She worked as a concertmaster and vocal coach at the Athens Opera and the «Megaron» concert hall.


She improved her vocal techniques under Fiorella Carmen Forti, took part in master classes of Jannette Pilou, Wilma Lipp, Galina Vishnevskaya, Paolo Montarsolo.


Although Medea’s career as a singer had started relatively late, she managed to be a success in the lyric and dramatic soprano parts (
Micaëla, Mimi, Aida, Maddalena, Tosca, Leonora («Il trovatore») in Verdi’s operas) at the stages like the Janáček Opera in Brno, National Theater in Prague, Badisches StaatstheaterKarlsruhe, Carnegie Hall in New York, Teatro Duse Bologna, Greek National Opera and Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. She collaborated with Richard Bonynge, Donato Renzetti, Nino Sonzogno, Iván Fischer, Angelo Cavallaro, Teodor Currentzis and other conductors. 


Medea Iassonidi worked as vocal consultant for stage productions with the singers like Dimitri Kavrakos, Dimitris Tiliakos, Giovanna Casola, Ernesto Palacio, Rosalind Plowright, Elizabeth Connoly, Susan Neves, Vladimir Chernov, Paata Burchuladze, Gianni Raimondi, Veronika Dzhioeva. 


She has regularly given master-classes for young singers in Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic since 2017.


Medea Iassinidi has collaborated with the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre since 2012:

 — Vocal Coach (since 2012);


 — Assistant of the Artistic Director (2012—2014);


 — Casting Director (since 2018);


 — Head of the Opera Troupe (since January, 2019).
