Biography
Began his career as the manager of the technical lighting department of the Flemish Opera in Belgium. He has worked as the lighting designer on many productions by Robert Carsen, including Jenůfa, The Cunning Little Vixen, Katya Kabanova by Janáček, and Richard III by Giorgio Battistelli at the Flemish Opera; Dvořák’s Rusalka and Capriccio at Opéra de Paris; Fidelio by Beethoven in Amsterdam and Florence; Les Boréades by Rameau in Paris and New York; Tosca by Verdi at Gran Teatre del Liceu; Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss in Salzburg Festival; La traviata by Verdi at La Fenice; Elektra by Strauss in Tokyo; A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Britten in Barcelona; Iphigénie en Tauride by Gluck at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and in Madrid and Toronto; Candide by Bernstein at La Scala, English National Opera, and in Japan; Mozart’s Don Giovanni at La Scala; Verdi’s Falstaff at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala; The Love of Three Oranges by Prokofiev in Berlin; Rinaldo by Hendel in Glyndebourne Opera Festival. Together with stage director Pierre Audi, has worked on productions of Les Troyens by Berlioz (Amsterdam), Alcina by Hendel and Zoroastre by Rameau (Drottningholm and Amsterdam).
His works with La Fura dels Baus include Les Troyens with Carlus Padrissa, and with Alex Olle and Valentina Carrasco Le Grand Macabre (Brussel, Rome, London, Buenos Aires), and Oedipe (Brussels, Buenos Aires). Also with Carrasco he did The Colon Ring in Buenos Aires and Turn of the Screw in Lyon.
