Sergei Murzaev

Biography
Murzaev has been a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre inMoscowsince 1991 and is a permanent guest soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre. He graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (class of Professor Pyotr Skusnitschenko, People’s Artist of Russia).
His repertoire includes above all leading roles in Verismo and Russian operas. He has performed on the stages of famous theaters such at La Scala Milan (Verdi’s Othello, Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta), L’Opéra Bastille in Paris (Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov and Khovanshchina, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Puccini’s Tosca, Giordano’s Andrea Chenier, Verdi’s Aida), at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Prokofiev’s War and Peace), at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera) and the Staatsoper Berlin (Verdi’s Macbeth and La traviata).
He has collaborated with stage directors such as Giancarlo del Monaco, Francesca Zambello, Andrei Tarkovsky, Henning Brockhaus and conductors like Daniel Oren, James Conlon, Pinchas Steinberg, Valery Gergiev, and Yuri Temirkanov.
He has recorded three CDs of Rachmaninov operas for the Chandos label with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda: Francesca da Rimini, The Miserly Knight, and Aleko.
He is a winner of the National ‘Golden Mask’ Theatre Award and of many prestigious international singing competitions.
