The ballet La bayadere (1877) is one of chef oeuvres by Marius Petipa that is also a necessary part of a classical repertoire. The basis of its plot is a love story of a bayadere Nikiya and a noble warrior Solor that turned out to be a tragedy because of jealous of High Brahmin and Rajah’s daughter Hamsatti. Having in his mind clear idea of the laws that a ballet should be built under Petipa unites in one performance romantic fever in characters of unblessed lovers, cold academism of a shadowland and entourage of the fantasy east.

The original choreography of Petipa put to music by Ludwig Mikus as a benefit performance of Ekaterina Vazem had many interpretations: from Agrippina Vaganova to Rudolf Nureev. A ballet master Alexei Morishnichenko working on the classical performance stage of “La bayadere” in Perm addresses the canonic edition of Vladimir Ponomarev and Vakhtang Chabukiani and also includes separate dances by Konstantin Sergeev and Nikolai Zubkovsky.
