Adventures in the Land of Opera
Jolly musical in two acts
Staged by Elena Alexandrova
The opera was written in 1974. This version was first performed in Perm in 2000. It was revived in 2016.
This funny, amusing, instructive production helps young people to become acquainted with musical theatre. The principal characters are all the components of musical theatre brought to life: Instruments and Voices, Chorus and Orchestra. The audience sing and play with two clowns: Sad and Happy. Together with the Detective, they set off in search of the Blue Diamond stolen from the palace of King II and Queen Zevunya XIII, a loss which makes Princess Slezabeta weep floods of bitter tears. And in the finale, they find themselves at a ball, where each musical instrument is already an old friend after an hour of adventures in the land of opera. The production is intended to present an audience of children with all their favourite theatrical characters and amusing references to well-known scenes in musical productions. For example, the Dance of the Little Swans is performed by Trained Penguins.
