Biography

Estonian violinist, conductor and recognized expert in Medieval and Baroque music. Founder and head of Hortus Musicus, an early music ensemble. Founder and artistic director of the annual international Tallinn Baroque Music Festival since 1989. Honoured Art Worker of Estonia (1986), Honorary Citizen of Tallinn (2000), and recipient of numerous other state and public awards.

Andres Mustonen has led world premieres of compositions by Pärt, Kancheli, Gubaidulina, Penderecki, Knaifel, Tüür, and others. At the same time, he combines works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms and other composers in his repertoire. The maestro focuses particularly on church music. In the 2014/2015 season he holds the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre.
