Biography

Leading specialist in painting and engineering at the Mariinsky Theatre. Graduated from the Leningrad Art School named after V. A. Serov. Between 1979 and 1983 worked at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk. Since 1983 Voitenko has been working at the Mariinsky Theatre. He has participated in the staging of over 100 productions as a layout artist and assistant set designer. He has worked as a set designer for Wagner’s Parsifal (1995), Verdi’s La forza del destino (1998), and Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty (1999). He has collaborated with a number of theatres in Russia, including the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre (Asafyev’s ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, 2011) and the Petrozavodsk Musical Theatre (The Nutcracker, 2009). He has also collaborated with foreign theatres such the as The Lithuanian National Opera in Vilnius (ballet Coppélia by Delibes, 2010), The Sarajevo National Theatre (The Lady of the Camellias, 2012) and the Staatsballett Berlin (The Nutcracker, 2013). He also works as a book designer, easel painter and designer of theatre posters.
