Kathi Maurer

Biography

She studied at the Central St. Martin’s College for Art and Design in London and the Berliner Hochschule der Künste, the class of the famous stage designer Achim Freyer.

She creates costumes for dramatic and operatic productions in Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Cologne, Zurich.

In 2002, she participated in the production of A Summer Nights Dream (based on Shakespeare’s play and including Mozart’s music) at the Festival International d’Art Lyrique d’Aixen-Provence. Collaborated with such directors as Tilman Knabe, Peter Kastenmüller, Percy Adlon, Franz Wittenbrink. A long-standing creative relationship links Kathi Maurer with the director Philipp Stölzl: Rubens und das nichteuklidische Weib (Rubens and the Non-Euclidean Women), a play by Péter Esterházy with music, at the RUHRtriennale (2006), Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini at the Salzburg Festival (2007), Wagner’s Rienzi, der Letzte der Tribunen (Rienzi, the Last of the Tribunes) and Parsifal at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (2009, 2012), Frankenstein based on the novel by Mary Shelley at the Theater Basel (2014). The production of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Oper im Steinbruch St Margarethen in 2016 was the first collaboration with director Philipp Himmelmann. Their further projects are Tosca in Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and La bohème in Perm Opera.
