The performance of Sir Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs (The Skaters) (1937) to music composed by Meyerbeer is a charming winter sketch — it is as though one is peeping through a Victorian window. To this day it remains a repertoire favourite of The Royal Ballet.

The ballet is staged in collaboration with the Frederick Ashton Foundation in accordance with Ashton’s style and technique

One-act ballet

Choreography and scenography by Douglas Lee

The world premiere was taken place in Perm in 2014. Running time: 18 minutes

When the Snow Was Falling is a new work by Douglas Lee, written exclusively for the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre. This is the second collaboration between the choreographer and the Perm dancers: in 2012, Douglas Lee was nominated for the ‘Golden Mask’ award for his ballet Souvenir, which he created for the Perm Theatre.

One-act ballet to music composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and arranged by Philip Gammon, traditional Russian music arranged by Sarah Freestone

Choreography by Sir Kenneth MacMillan. Costumes designed by Peter Farmer

It was first presented in London in 1991. The Russian premiere was taken place in Perm in 2014. The 2019 revival.

Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Winter Dreams, inspired by Chekhov’s play Three Sisters, to music from different works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky is a beautiful embodiment of melancholy through the medium of choreography.
